# Surcharge

### Surcharge



A surcharge is an additional charge, tax, or payment that a company adds to the existing cost of a good or service. It is an extra fee imposed by a merchant as per the business requirements. For example, a merchant can charge service fee to users who pay using a credit card of a particular brand or add a surcharge for cash on delivery payments to discourage its use. Surcharges can take various forms, such as service fees, handling fees, disposal fees, and processing fees.

All payment methods supported by SmartGateway support surcharge.


### Flat Fee



Flat Fee is a constant value and does not vary with the order amount, but the surcharge amount changes with the order amount.


### Tax Rate



Tax Rate is the additional tax amount to the surcharge debited from the user. The tax is calculated on the total surcharge value i.e. Surcharge Amount + Flat Fee. 


### Refund 



Merchant can select between the following options:

1. Full Refund including the surcharge : Please enable the flag “Include Surcharge Amount in Refund” on the SmartGateway Dashboard to use this feature.
2. Partial Refund excluding the surcharge : Only Refund of the order amount.
